PALLIATIVE CARE AND COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE
This course is a NEW 'Guest' Course written and presented by Bridget Purser. Bridget is an experienced Complementary Therapies practitioner with 18 years experience of working in palliative care.
During the Course we will explore:* What Palliative Care is and what it offers * The role of hospices * Cancer * Motor neurone disease and other neurological illnesses * Other life-limiting illnesses.
We will look at a patient's journey from initial diagnosis through to their 'passing' in a hospice. We will investigate orthodox treatments, as well as complementary treatments and look at the holistic approach vital to offering this type of care.
A patient will visit during the Course and offer their unique perspective on their journey and their use of complementary therapies and how this has benefited them. We will investigate, in depth, essential oils and their use in this field and have the opportunity of making up aromasticks, creams, lotions etc, all of which are used in the palliative care setting.
We will also see how to adapt therapies and their uses: such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Healing, Visualisation/Guided Imagery, Yoga, Hypno-massage. This course is open to anyone with an interest in this field and who would like to find out more.
